Lydia + Mike
Their Story:
Known each other for 21 years.
He was the first-mate on her dad’s boat.
They almost dated back then but it didn’t work out.
They’ve known each other’s family for a long time.
People talked very highly of Mike especially and the type person he is.
A year and a half ago they reconnected
She would joke that he needed to get out and meet people, turns out, he met her.
They wound up getting married on the private island where the bride basically grew up going on vacation.
Them
Similar personalities, he is more quiet and reserved. Complement each other well.
They are both in their 40’s and realized it was time.
Not big words people, but they mean a lot to each other.
Their People
Jimmy - Best man: Been friends for forever. Same friend group, saw it all start.
Very close with her family. Older brother + 2 younger sisters. Close with dad.
The Wedding
Took place over a couple of days - sorta like a mini-vacation.
It was big for them that their people got to experience a place that they love.
It didn’t operate like a high production event, more like lots of time together.
On Thursday + Friday, people arrived.
It was cool because several people arrived by private plane which we filmed.
They had a welcome party that night (essentially a cocktail hour with guests)
Saturday was the Wedding Day and it was pretty standard. Some highlights:
First Look on the boat w/ personal vows
Dad’s interview at cocktail hour
Fireworks during cake cutting
The speeches and ceremony were all good
Sunday was kinda just a fun chill day
We went to a beach bar and hung out together
That afternoon we collected hermit crabs and did a hermit crab race
Film Inspiration
When I picture the film, I picture it being very similar to ours in terms of pacing/style.
I want it to have a strong narrative and flow, but also somewhat of a chronological feel edited in multiple scenes (arrival, welcome party, wedding day, etc.). Essentially, let us rewatch the weekend and slow down to enjoy some of the moments.
I tried to get several impromptu interviews to help move the story along as we watch.
They will get full edits of the ceremony/speeches etc. so don’t try to show everything. But do let us experience it a little bit.
They really want to see
Family togetherness. All their people in one place. — Don’t just show them the whole time.
The island they love. This was big for them.
Mike’s boat. It’s basically his baby and it connects to their story and how they met.
This film has a really similar editing style. Edited in chapters.
I really love the island feel of this one and almost the connection to one another and nature.
The way drone shots, sound design, ambient audio, nature shots, etc. are put together in this one is exactly what I’m looking for.
Technical Details
I mic-d the groom for most of the time we were together.
I would love to use audio from his mic when possible for ambient conversation audio, etc. — should sync using timecode.
